The Drudgery of Treadmills – Commentary

The Drudgery of Treadmills

Summary:

. Treadmill walking and running feels psychologically more difficult.

. The diversion and inherent randomness in the outdoors creates a more complex environment that makes running/walking outdoors “easier”.

. Having an end destination when walking outdoors, creates a sense of accomplishment not found on treadmills.

. Having a screen monitor and video on a treadmill may lessen the boredom.  Although playing the same video removes any randomness that comes w/ running outdoors.

. Running outdoors – 200% bodyweight when hitting the ground, treadmills 175% body weight.
