Tourists in the town of Larena can also ask around for demonstrations of treatment by "bolobolo" or healing through water blowing. In this practice, it is said that the mambobolo (practitioner of bolo-bolo) can absorb a person’s illness and blow it out onto a glass of water. There are some who say that the treatment is often effective and should be seen by all visitors to the island.

Visiting the Island

One day is usually enough to take in the local scene and visit the sights if Siquijor. For holiday makers who would like to stay on a bit longer, there are numerous beach resorts like Coral Cay and Kiwi Dive Resorts, with the latter operated by foreigners who have opted to settle down on the island. Diving and snorkeling gear may be rented at resorts for a nominal fee. Alternatively, there are local lodging houses and hostels to be found in the Siquijor town proper and the towns of Larena and San Juan.

Like in all parts of the country, visitors are advised to bring comfortable and light weight clothing and comfortable shoes or sandals. It should be noted though that the natives of Siquijor are rather conservative so discretion as to clothes would be advisable.

Basic commodities like toiletries, snacks and medicines may be had on the island.. It is recommended though that tourists planning to visit the island undergo dengue and malaria shots as safety precautions. Tourists are also reminded that special items like wine, cheese, chocolates, and special medicines can be harder to procure the farther away they are from the bigger cities of Dumaguete and Cebu. It is best to take along whatever you may need for your stay.

Communication is not a problem as most of the natives are fairly fluent in both English and Tagalog languages. For a small fee, some may even be willing to act as tour guides for people visiting Siquijor.

Jeepneys and tricycles are the main modes of transportation round the island. They may also be negotiated to act as tour guides for small fees. Most resorts usually have their own means of picking up and taking visitors to the ferry as soon as bookings are confirmed. The municipal Department of Tourism Office is also open to assist tourists and holiday makers during their stay in Siquijor.

Beauty, mystery, magic and the unknown. Can any one island seduce your curiosity more?
