Title: "Tropical Fruit Lanzones of Philippines / Camiguin"

All of the volcanoes are dormant while Mt. Volcan is already extinct. The last recorded eruption on the island was in 1951 from Mt Hibok-Hibok.

For vacationers fortunate enough to be in Camiguin on the third week of October, this is the time the Lanzones Festival is held. Apart from getting to gorge themselves on loads of the fruit, the four-day festival promises much entertainment and spectacle.

Highlights of the festival are colorful with upbeat performances of street dancing and native traditions like the Dawit-Dawit Ta Buahan which is celebrated through dances by the local folk in traditionally inspired costumes. The costumes themselves are quite eye catching. Most are made from giant fern leaves, chicken feathers, woven straw mats and mussel shells strung together to form anklets. Tourists are welcome to try on the fiesta garb.

The Dawit-Dawit Ta Buahan is held among the ruins of the old Katadman Spanish settlement in Barangay Bonbon at dusk and is timed to coincide with the setting of the sun. The settlement was a flourishing one until an eruption of Mt. Volcan in 1871 sank a great part of the town of Katadman, leaving only the ruins of a church, its bell tower and a convent.

Just off the waters of Barangay Bonbon stands a cross. This marks the site where the cemetery of Cotta Batto sank into the sea during the 1871 explosion. The Sunken Cemetery has since been overgrown with corals and is now a dive site for the intrepid adventurer.

Camiguin is also one of the places where tourists may see fields full of sparkling fireflies at night. Due to the lush foliage and pollution free air, Camiguin is one of the few remaining places where the wonder of fireflies twinkling like millions of christmas lights may still be enjoyed.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

For visitors staying in the Northern part of the island, it is well worth the effort to wake up at 4:30 am to take a boat ride to a snowy white sand bar called White Island. Watching the sun rise over Camiguin from the sand bar is simply breath taking. Bring your cameras along as White Island provides the most magnificent view. Just take care you leave before late afternoon as the sand bar usually sinks with the high tide.

After a cold dip in White Island, visitors can opt to head to the Ardent Springs Resort, situated at the base of Mt. Hibok-Hibok. Ardent Springs offers a flowing pool of hot mineral water (about 40 degrees celsius) which is considered by many to be therapeutic.

They also have cold springs for visitors who prefer cool water in the temperate climate.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to bring back some of those delicious lanzones!

Visit beautiful philippines today!  A great vacation for the entire family...
